This volunteer project was an expansion of the existing Cedar Falls Veterans Park, initiated by a group of citizens. The community wanted to expand the use of the park by providing communal space in the form of a park shelter with seating and picnic tables. Stakeholders wanted to create something unique and attractive that departed from a standard park shelter.
INVISION designed a glue-laminated timber structure with a linear roof, enhanced by a trellis-like overhang reaching out into the memorial garden. In the garden, stone seating gives the park both functional and aesthetic appeal. A true collaboration between the contractor, design team, generous individuals and companies in the area, and the City itself, created this memorial and community amenity that many will appreciate for years to come.
