Des Moines University needed a fast turn-around to update office and clinic space. An efficient Discovery process revealed that a renovation of several spaces on campus was needed to better align with the patient care and learning environments DMU was providing. Dividing the project into phases minimized impacts on the university’s operations while delivering the most value in the short time frame.
Full-floor renovations in the clinic tower holding multiple departments included:
- Floors 1 & 5: Academic Center
- Floor 6: Foot & Ankle Clinic
- Floor 7: Behavioral Health Clinic
- Floors 8 & 9: Osteopathic Manual Medicine Clinic & Physical Therapy
INVISION worked closely with DMU’s executive leadership team to shift from traditional office design to a more open, collaborative space with plenty of natural daylight. The renovated spaces in the clinic tower were designed to provide welcoming, safe, motivating, and accessible spaces while focusing on inclusivity features like gender-neutral restrooms.
Office standards and finish standards were developed on these projects to be utilized for future work. Consistency in materials and efficient wayfinding also brought a cohesive look and feel to the various spaces. Integrating natural light, modern finishes, and pops of DMU branding enhanced the welcoming feel throughout campus.
