When Regional Medical Center was looking for a long-term master plan to improve and expand their facilities and enhance the patient experience, they worked with INVISION to develop it, along with a comprehensive facility assessment.
To engage the community, evolve hospital culture, and personalize healthcare delivery, the plan’s first two phases were an addition and renovation to the existing campus.
Phase One was a major two-story addition that included relocating the outdated inpatient units, while Phase Two involved the renovation and updating of existing spaces and departments. Careful planning ensured that all construction work was able to be completed while RMC continued to provide full hospital services.
Overall, the project encompassed approximately 60,000sf of new construction along with numerous back-fill renovation projects. The new inpatient areas were oriented to maximize the views of the Maquoketa River, with the natural, warm colors and materials utilized in the design also serving to bring the outdoors into the space. The design team took an integrated approach to addressing the existing hospital and made clear and intuitive wayfinding a key element for the campus. These master plan efforts allowed RMC to more appropriately serve the close-knit community it supports.
