At Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Services, INVISION was tasked with promoting better synergy between the rehabilitation and orthopedic clinics, as well as improving the front door appeal. Featured in this space was the new fitness gym, an amenity for patients and community members alike. The new and relocated clinics include:
- Exam
- Procedure
- Cast and x‑ray rooms
- Future MRI and support staff rooms
- Pool and locker facilities
- Elevated three-lane running track
- Two-and-a-half-story climbing wall
A large entry volume and canopy created an inviting new entrance for guests. The design incorporated multiple window types to create an open environment with plenty of light. Translucent glazing at the end of each corridor allows for natural daylight without impinging on patient privacy. A continuous clerestory window down the clinic’s core allows for daylight harvesting that also assists with patient wayfinding. In the fitness gym, the design team used expansive glazing for even more natural light, as well as clear views from the exterior into the dynamic, two-story space at night. Despite a challenging site, the team created new and relocated space for this client’s first-rate Center for Excellence.
