INVISION was called on to work with The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) to renovate approximately 32,000sf on the Fourth Floor of the John Pappajohn Pavilion.
To accommodate the consolidation of components that previously operated independently, and to plan for future phases, Lean design principles and interactive exercises were utilized. This process helped the staff investigate and refine their work patterns, resulting in a more efficient layout and better way to provide services.
A pod concept, with two-sided exam rooms surrounding a central team workspace, allowed for “on-stage/off-stage” circulation patterns and efficient workflows. The renovation yielded an expanded and consolidated Heart and Vascular Center, including an ambulatory care clinic, cardiac rehabilitation services, non-invasive diagnostic testing procedure rooms, patient preparation and recovery facilities, clinical research, and education facilities. The consolidation of services encouraged multidisciplinary collaboration and offered a wide variety of spaces and functions within an efficient footprint. Patients now have a one-stop shop for all their heart and vascular needs.
